How to Search the Lafourche Parish Court Docket
Every Lafourche Parish court docket hunt starts at the Clerk's search hub. It splits into separate ClerkConnect tools. These cover civil suits, criminal cases, court events, official records, and electronic filing. That split matters more than it first appears. A civil matter comes back as a suit, and a criminal matter as a case. A scheduled proceeding is a court event. So don't treat the docket as one big combined list. Begin with the most specific identifier you have.
Let the court named on your summons, citation, or prior order guide you. A case or suit number is the narrowest path. Without one, run a name search. Then narrow it with the fields the official system offers. Before calling a result a match, check the court, division, filing date, and parties. Similar names and incomplete online releases are real limits on any Lafourche Parish case lookup.
- Open the Lafourche Clerk search hub and choose civil, criminal, court-event, or records access.
- Enter a suit, case, or ticket number first when one is printed on the court paper.
- For a name search, add only the available narrowing fields and review the filing date and division.
- Use Court Date Finder for a scheduled event, then read its date, time, courtroom, judge, and hearing type.
- Ask the Clerk for a released plain, stamped, or certified copy when an official document is needed.
Lafourche Parish ClerkConnect Search Paths
ClerkConnect is the Lafourche-specific route into the 17th JDC. The criminal inquiry takes a defendant name, case number, or ticket number. The civil side works from party, attorney, cause, or suit number. Court Date Finder answers a different question: it hunts scheduled events by name. The tools are related. But their forms are not interchangeable. Pick the one that matches what you actually need from the docket.
| Need | Official Lafourche route | Useful identifier |
|---|---|---|
| Criminal case | Criminal Inquiry | Case number, ticket number, or defendant name |
| Civil suit | Civil Inquiry | Suit number, party, attorney, or cause |
| Hearing setting | Court Date Finder | Last name, then first name or date of birth if needed |
| Released record image | Clerk records search | Case reference and document type |
The Clerk's hub earns its spot as the starting point. It names the Lafourche tools directly. It does not push a city or Justice of the Peace case into the district-court system. Going in the wrong door wastes a search every time.
The official ClerkConnect search hub appears on the Clerk's civil and criminal search page. It lists each entry point.
The separate links make the lesson plain. Know your record type and issuing court before any Lafourche docket search begins.
What a Lafourche Parish Court Docket Shows
A docket result is an index or event record. It is not a promise that every filing image is public. On the criminal side, a result can carry the defendant, case or ticket number, division, filed date, charges, warrant-count field, arrest date, and a details control. A civil result can show the suit number, plaintiff, defendant, caption, filing date, cause, and its own details control. Court Date Finder stays focused on the scheduled event itself.
Use a result to pinpoint the right case. Then chase the item that answers your real question. A future setting does not prove a hearing ever happened. A case number without an image can reflect coverage dates, release processing, or redaction. It can also point to a request the Clerk must handle personally.
| Case or suit number | The court's identifier, used to narrow follow-up requests and calls. |
|---|---|
| Parties or caption | The names or styled suit title used to distinguish similar matters. |
| Division | One of the 17th JDC's five elected divisions for a district-court matter. |
| Filed date | The date the case entered the court record, not necessarily the event date. |
| Court event | The setting's date, time, room, judge, type, and hearing type when available. |
| Released document | An image or copy that the Clerk has indexed, verified, and released under access rules. |
Lafourche Parish Index and Image Coverage
Lafourche's online court records turn on at three different points. Civil and criminal indexes are listed from July 1, 1982. Minute entries begin January 1, 2001. Images start at March 2018, and older ones may possibly be released after redaction. A Lafourche Parish court docket search can therefore surface an old case while showing no scanned document behind it.
The Clerk calls the online material a convenience service. It notes that only records in the Clerk's office are official. Brand-new numbers may lag because release follows recording, indexing, verification, and release. That gap matters most for a very recent filing. It also matters for a request made near a holiday or after the office's daily processing cutoff.
The Clerk's records-search information is the source for the coverage distinction.
Those dates explain something practical. A counter visit, Copy Department request, or public research area can still beat the screen.
Which Lafourche Parish Courts Keep Dockets
Lafourche Parish is a Louisiana parish. Its courts do not all keep records the same way. The 17th Judicial District Court holds original civil and criminal jurisdiction there. The Lafourche Parish Clerk of Court maintains the district court's civil, criminal, minute-entry, and released-record functions. Lower courts keep their own records and calendars.
Whatever paper you hold should name the issuing court. Trust that line over an address when picking a search. A Thibodaux City Court matter, a Golden Meadow municipal matter, and a Lockport mayor's-court matter are not alternate labels for a 17th JDC case in the Lafourche Parish criminal docket. A Justice of the Peace matter is not one either.
| Court or custodian | Typical Lafourche matter | Starting channel |
|---|---|---|
| 17th JDC and Lafourche Clerk | District civil and criminal cases, settings, released records | ClerkConnect and the Clerk |
| Thibodaux City Court | City Court matters and Ward 2 service area cases | City Court contact, because no public docket portal was located |
| Golden Meadow Municipal Court | Town court citations and local court proceedings | Town court information and direct court confirmation |
| Justice of the Peace or mayor's court | Local small claims, misdemeanors, or town matters | Issuing court or official directory |
Lafourche Parish dockets live mainly with the 17th Judicial District Court. Per its 17th JDC court description, the district court holds original jurisdiction over parish cases and hears appeals from the lower courts.
For current links, calendar material, and duty assignments, the 17th JDC homepage is the page to check.
Its division and calendar materials add context once ClerkConnect pins down the right Lafourche case.
Lafourche Parish Traffic Court Routing
Traffic follows the issuing court, not your home address. The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office payment channel covers eligible 17th JDC tickets issued in unincorporated Lafourche Parish. Read the citation itself; it still controls. A Thibodaux City Court, Golden Meadow Municipal Court, Lockport local-court, or Justice of the Peace ticket belongs with that court instead.
LPSO instructions add two timing rules. Don't enter an eligible ticket online until ten business days after issuance. Allow three days for payment processing. A mandatory-appearance ticket waits until the required appearance and final disposition. The Lafourche Parish traffic court records page keeps the payment route separate from the court file and court-date route.
Finding Lafourche Parish Court Dates and Settings
Court Date Finder handles a single setting lookup in Lafourche Parish. Type a last name first. Sometimes the results come back too broad. Add a first name or date of birth then. One match can display the case or suit number, the party name, event and hearing type, the date and time, the courtroom, the judge, and a civil caption. Write down the case or suit number. A follow-up call goes much faster with it ready.
The 17th JDC posts calendar and duty information. Yet every division keeps its own calendar habits, and posted documents can be amended. So treat any listed date as a planning aid. A date on a calendar is not a result. It proves neither that a hearing happened nor that it is still set. For the full picture, read the Lafourche Parish court calendar page. Confirm anything you must attend with the division or docket office.
Lafourche Parish Court Date Finder Limits
Court Date Finder works well because it searches events, not a browsable whole calendar. Last name is the core field on the official form. The form itself gives a warning. A broad search returns only the first 100 records. When a name floods the screen with matches, add detail and run it again. Never read that 100-result cap as a complete list. The list stops at 100. It does not cover every Lafourche Parish court event tied to that name.
- Court event
- A scheduled proceeding returned by Court Date Finder.
- Type
- An event category, which may differ from the hearing-type description.
- Hearing type
- The proceeding description shown in the event record.
- Court room
- The location expected for the setting, not proof that the hearing occurred.
Need a civil setting fast? Call (985) 447-5550, the documented civil docket-information number. For a criminal docket question, the documented number is (985) 447-5512. The assigned division or the Clerk can always confirm a setting you plan to attend.
Public Access to Lafourche Parish Court Dockets
Two laws anchor public access here. Louisiana Public Records Law, La. R.S. 44:1 et seq., opens qualifying records to the public. Louisiana Code of Civil Procedure art. 251 then places district-court records in the clerk's custody. That article governs inspection, copying, and certification. In Lafourche, what you can actually reach still turns on the record type, its release status, any redaction, and the court's confidentiality rules. Viewing a file is one thing. Searching an online index, pulling an image, and ordering a certified copy are three more.
Some matters stay closed or limited. Juvenile records, adoptions, interdictions, minor settlements, medical and financial details, sealed filings, and private identifiers may be unavailable. A missing result does not mean the case never existed. It may simply be confidential. Or it may be expunged, restricted from release, or left out of the index you searched.
Key Louisiana access rules:
La. R.S. 44:1 defines public records and the responsible custodian.
La. R.S. 44:32 addresses examination, copies, procedures, and written determinations.
CCP art. 251 covers the district clerk's custody, inspection, copying, and certification role.
Children's Code art. 412 protects juvenile records except for limited statutory access.
Lafourche Parish Statewide Access Layer
eClerks LA and the Louisiana Clerks' Remote Access Authority open statewide paths to court records. But neither replaces Lafourche ClerkConnect when you need a specific 17th JDC case. eClerks offers a free statewide portal for the information it identifies. A paid Parish Search covers records and images. A criminal-search option exists too. Access levels, release status, and subscription terms vary from system to system.
Statewide electronic access does not make every pleading public online. R.S. 13:754 builds the state's electronic access and filing infrastructure. For qualifying criminal cases filed on or after January 1, 2020, R.S. 13:5992 requires electronic access to listed minute entries or summaries, not every document image. It leaves out traffic matters. For the statewide options themselves, the eClerks LA home page spells out what the portal covers.
Use the statewide route to supplement a Lafourche docket search. For a 17th JDC civil, criminal, or event inquiry, the parish portal stays the direct route. The Louisiana Clerks' Remote Access Authority history page adds background on that statewide framework.
Remote access changes convenience, not authority. The Clerk still decides which records are released and which are official. One more note applies: the Louisiana Supreme Court's CDX notice describes an appellate filing system for registered attorneys, not a public Lafourche trial-court docket.
CDX is no stand-in for the Lafourche Clerk's civil, criminal, or court-event tools.
The Lafourche Parish Clerk and Docket Records
Annette M. Fontana serves as Lafourche Parish Clerk of Court for the 17th JDC. Her office runs central civil and criminal record functions. It houses the Copy Department too. A public research area also operates from the Thibodaux Annex. The current office notice points to a return to 303 West Third Street. The Maronge Street side serves as the main entrance. You can also send a public record request by the Clerk's email or through the Copy Request form.
Copying costs are published and simple. A plain page runs $1, a stamped document $5, and a certified document $10. The Civil Fee Sheet lists separate certification and processing entries, so some requests total differently. Before paying, confirm the charge, the page count, the delivery method, and whether you need a plain, stamped, or certified copy.

The 17th JDC division pages identify the court's office routing and locations.
Once you locate a Lafourche case or setting, division information helps you reach the right court office.
Lafourche Parish Clerk Satellite Access
Satellite Clerk offices save Lafourche residents a long drive for district-court records. The Lockport satellite sits in the Lockport Civic Complex. Its address is 710 Church Street. It is open Tuesday and Thursday. The Galliano/Cut Off satellite, at 16241 East Main Street in Cut Off, keeps a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday schedule. Call first to confirm hours and that your item can be handled locally.
Remember what a satellite is. It is a Lafourche Parish Clerk access point. It is not the keeper of a nearby town's mayor's-court or municipal-court file. Any request should still name the issuing court and the case or suit number. It should also give the approximate date, the document wanted, and the copy type.
Lafourche Parish Court Docket Workload
How busy is the 17th JDC? The Louisiana Supreme Court's 2024 annual report answers with raw counts. It recorded 14,161 total filings in 2024. The split ran 6,857 traffic, 4,477 criminal, 2,268 civil, and 559 juvenile matters. Those are workload numbers, nothing more. They do not count people. They are not live results from a docket search. Still, they explain why record type, division, and traffic routing matter so much in a Lafourche Parish court docket.
The report reaches back a year, too, listing 15,300 total filings in 2023. Jury trials were rare: one civil and fourteen criminal in 2024. A docket entry can name a case or a hearing setting. It cannot tell you how every filing ended. It also cannot capture the full picture of court activity. For a current status, the court and the clerk remain the right sources.
Federal cases follow a different track entirely. They are heard in the Eastern District of Louisiana. Search them through PACER or the PACER Case Locator. CourtListener/RECAP serves only as a supplementary, non-official way to find filings. The Eastern District of Louisiana site covers the federal-court side.
A Lafourche mailing address settles nothing on its own. What matters is the caption, the court, the system, and where the case was filed. Those details determine the correct search. The Fifth Circuit reference image shows the separate federal appellate route. That route differs from the Louisiana First Circuit state appeal path. The First Circuit handles appeals for 17th JDC cases.
State district-court appeals out of Lafourche Parish generally go to the Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal. Federal appeals take a separate system altogether.
Court Dockets by City in Lafourche Parish
Lafourche Parish has three incorporated municipalities, per the official profile and the 2020 Census place table: Thibodaux, Lockport, and Golden Meadow. Population ranking does not build a shared local docket database, though. Each city page leads with local court information it can support, then sorts a district-court matter from a city, mayor's, or municipal court matter.
Thibodaux Court Docket
2020 Census population 15,948. City Court records remain separate from 17th JDC and Clerk records.
Lockport Court Docket
2020 Census population 2,490. The Clerk satellite is a district-court access point, not the town court.
Golden Meadow Court Docket
2020 Census population 1,761. Municipal court has its own published schedule and no located public search.
Map and Directions to the Lafourche Parish Courthouse
17th Judicial District Court civil and criminal records for Lafourche Parish are kept at the Clerk of Court's Thibodaux Annex, 303 West Third Street. The office's current notice says it returned to this building with the main entrance on the Maronge Street side. Division C is on the Annex's third floor and Division D on the second floor; Division B sits separately at the Old Courthouse, 201 Green Street, and Divisions A and E are at the Lafourche Parish Government Complex in Mathews, 4876 Highway 1, Raceland.

Use the Maronge Street side entrance rather than the Third Street front, since that is the office's current published main entrance. No parking map or security-screening policy is published for the Annex, so calling (985) 447-4841 before a visit is the safest way to confirm the entrance and counter hours, especially since a division's usual floor or building can differ from the court's own footer description.
